VCE key dates & exam timetable (2026) — the timeline to know

The VCE year at a glance: GAT, SACs, the written exam period, and when results and ATARs come out. Approximate windows — confirm official dates with VCAA.

Knowing the shape of the VCE year helps you pace revision and avoid nasty surprises. Below is the typical timeline — always confirm the exact 2026 dates on the VCAA and VTAC websites, as they're set officially and can change.

Across the year

  • •Terms 1–4: SACs (School-Assessed Coursework) run through the year — these count toward your study score, so treat each one seriously.
  • •Mid-year: the GAT (General Achievement Test) is usually held around June.
  • •Term 4: final revision and the written exam period.

The exam period (approx. late Oct – mid/late Nov)

  • •VCE written exams run across roughly three weeks from late October.
  • •English is typically first; maths and sciences are spread through the period.
  • •Your personal timetable depends on your subjects — check the official VCAA exam timetable for exact dates and times.

After exams (December)

  • •Results (study scores) and ATARs are released in December, usually mid-month.
  • •Change-of-preference for university offers happens around the same time via VTAC.
